Effects of Moral Violation on Algorithmic Transparency: An Empirical Investigation.Muhammad Umair Shah, Umair Rehman, Bidhan Parmar & Inara Ismail - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-16.
Workers can be fired from jobs, citizens sent to jail, and adolescents more likely to experience depression, all because of algorithms. Algorithms have considerable impacts on our lives. To increase user satisfaction and trust, the most common proposal from academics and developers is to increase the transparency of algorithmic design. While there is a large body of literature on algorithmic transparency, the impact of unethical data collection practices is less well understood. Currently, there is limited research on the factors that (...)

With the development of wireless technology, two basic wireless network models that are commonly used, known as infrastructure and wireless ad hoc networks, have been developed. In the literature, it has been observed that channel contention is one of the main reasons for packet drop in WANETs. To handle this problem, this paper presents a routing protocol named CCBR. CCBR tries to determine a least contended path between the endpoints to increase packet delivery ratio and to reduce packet delay and (...)

For reasons of space we focus on the position of one of the most prominent, contemporary Kantians, Christine Korsgaard. 46. Proposing an Islamic virtue ethics beyond the situationist debates.Muhammad Velji - forthcoming - Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy.
I begin the first part by showing how situationism should make us question traditional understandings of virtues as intrinsic dispositions. I concentrate specifically on situationist experiments related to mood. I then introduce Islamic virtue ethics and the dawa movement. In parts two and three I examine ethnography of the dawa movement to explore how they deal with worries about the influence of mood on their virtue. In part two I show how they train their habits in very traditional virtue ethics (...)

    Managing the Complexity of Dialogues in Context: A Data-Driven Discovery Method for Dialectical Reply Structures.Olena Yaskorska-Shah - 2021 - Argumentation 35 (4):551-580.
Current formal dialectical models postulate normative rules that enable discussants to conduct dialogical interactions without committing fallacies. Though the rules for conducting a dialogue are supposed to apply to interactions between actual arguers, they are without exception theoretically motivated. This creates a gap between model and reality, because dialogue participants typically leave important content-related elements implicit. Therefore, analysts cannot readily relate normative rules to actual debates in ways that will be empirically confirmable. This paper details a new, data-driven method for (...)

Convolutional Neural Network Based Vehicle Classification in Adverse Illuminous Conditions for Intelligent Transportation Systems.Muhammad Atif Butt, Asad Masood Khattak, Sarmad Shafique, Bashir Hayat, Saima Abid, Ki-Il Kim, Muhammad Waqas Ayub, Ahthasham Sajid & Awais Adnan - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-11.
In step with rapid advancements in computer vision, vehicle classification demonstrates a considerable potential to reshape intelligent transportation systems. In the last couple of decades, image processing and pattern recognition-based vehicle classification systems have been used to improve the effectiveness of automated highway toll collection and traffic monitoring systems. However, these methods are trained on limited handcrafted features extracted from small datasets, which do not cater the real-time road traffic conditions. Deep learning-based classification systems have been proposed to incorporate the (...)
